Press conditioned polymer clay into a bead-rolling chamber of the roller TOP (has an alignment channel along one side, no rail) for the shape you wish to roll.
The polymer clay should more than completely fill the chamber in the center between the bead pin piercing paths.
The pin piercing paths are about 1 inch in from each end. Notice in the picture to the left the pin path and the vertical alignment lines are darkened for visual reference. |
Using a clay blade, shave excess clay from the chamber of the roller top.Cut nearly parallel with the roller top, leaving the surface of the clay flat and smooth. It is safest to hold the roller as illustrated and cut downwards away from yourself.
Press a measuring guide or ruler with raised 1/16” increments into the clay filled chamber. Press just enough to leave the 1/16” increment marks. |
Remove the marked clay from the roller and place on your work surface. |
Cut clay into lengths recomended in the instructions for that bead shape. In this sample the Pro Set Roller 2 was used and the length is 3/4". The registration marks are easier to see in real life! |
Hand-roll each measured amount of polymer clay into a ball. Roll long enough to smooth out any fold lines. Clay should be well compressed,
trapped air can create blemished or cracked beads. |
Place a measured amount of clay in the center of the bead roller base.
The base is the piece with an alignment rail along one side.
Action of the top roller sliding back and forth over the base is what shapes the bead. Place the roller top over the clay in the base, hold the base stationery, and move the bead roller top back
and forth over the clay to shape the bead. |
Move the bead to either end to the pin path, 1 inch i
n from either end. Move the bead close using the roller top, then align as necessary by hand, handling the bead as little and lightly as possible.
When bead is in alignment in the pin path, place the roller top over the base. |
The roller top and roller base each have vertical alignment lines on one side at the bead-piercing path.
These lines need to match perfectly during the bead piercing.
Enter the pin through either side. If the pin does not travel straight through, remove the pin and re-insert from the opposite side.
Try holding the pin straight and level. |
The bead in the picture is pierced. At this time the roller top is removed
and the bead inspected. If needed, the bead can be gently re-rolled in
the area between the pin path and the nearest end with the bead-piercing pin through the bead. |
